America is at a crossroads. According to
research by the Brookings Institution, many of our young people
are struggling to find work in our US labor force.
Simultaneously, many open positions remain unoccupied as
employers are unable to locate workers with the required skill
set. Many of these unfilled jobs are in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) – the industries that propel innovation, competition and economic growth.
What are we doing to address this skills gap and prepare our students to enter and excel in these competitive industries? Microsoft, in collaboration with the Brookings Institution
and the Detroit Regional Chamber, is exploring this urgent condition in an exclusive event series called Microsoft YouthSpark Connections. Join us as we examine the most current research on youth, education, and the opportunities to better meet the requirements of the labor market through education.

Windows 8 demonstration on the latest devices. And as an added
bonus, we encourage all attendees, especially educators, to
attend the special 30-minute session at 9:30am with a Microsoft
Innovative Educator (MIE) Fellow. This supplemental session will
explore the tools, technologies and learning techniques used to
inspire students and help develop students 21st century skills.
